Abstract. Study objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the use of Boehler's angle (BA) and the critical angle of Gissane (CAG) in diagnosing calcaneus fractures in the ED. Design: The study was conducted as a randomized, blinded, case-control trial.

Bohler's angle is the angle formed between these two lines. A normal Bohler's angle is approximately 25 to 40 degrees. It should be obvious that this angle decreases as the height of the calcaneus is lost; as this angle shrinks as the height of the posterior facet decreases. The second angle is the angle of Gissane.

The mean Gissane’s angle in the present study was 108.5 degrees. The maximum and minimum values for Gissane angle were 86.3° and 137.8° (Table:1). The minimum angle was found to be lower than that observed in all the previous studies (Table 3). Table 1: Bohler’s and Gissane’s angles in the study population Number of ankles measured Mean SD Bohler's angle is the angle formed between these two lines. A normal Bohler's angle is approximately 25 to 40 degrees.

The angles were measured using the digital Picture Archiving and Communication System. Results: The sample consisted of 800 patients; 554 (69.2%) were women and 246 (30.8%), men. In the sample evaluated, the Gissane angle is 110.6±11.9, while the Böhler angle is 32.6±6.1. Bohler's angle (also sometimes referred to as the "Tuber Angle") is formed by the intersection of lines 1 and line 2 on the lateral ankle radiograph. The normal range is 20 to 40 degrees.

Gissane's angle is also known as the crucial or critical angle and can be used to help determine the presence of a calcaneus fracture on a radiograph. The normal range is 130-145 degrees; An angle > 145 degrees is concerning for calcaneus fracture with involvement of the posterior talar articular surface

The normal range is 130-145 degrees An angle > 145 degrees is concerning for calcaneus fracture with involvement of the posterior talar articular surface Gissane Angle [aka *critical angle; critical angle of Gissane], like the Böhler angle, can be used to help determine the presence of a calcaneus fracture on a radiograph. Boehler's angle and the critical angle of Gissane are of limited use in diagnosing calcaneus fractures in the ED Am J Emerg Med .

The Angle of Gissane is the angle formed by the intersection of downward and upward slopes of the calcaneal superior surface on lateral images. 2012-12-04 · The Gissane (crucial) angle is formed by two strong cortical struts extending laterally, one along the lateral margin of the posterior facet and the other extending anterior to the beak of the calcaneus. The average Gissane angle in our study is 126.79 degrees, whereas in the western population, it is 122.5 degrees. In this study, Bohler angle and the crucial angle of Gissane in paediatric population were measured using lateral foot radiographs of 429 patients, from 0 to 16 years of age. The control group was composed of 70 adult patients. The sample had a mean Bohler angle of 35.4° ± 5.9° and a mean crucial angle of Gissane of 110.5° ± 7.4°.

Gissane angle

Angles < 20 degrees is suggestive of a calcaneus fracture and/or disruption of the posterior facet. The critical angle of Gissane (G) and the Boehler angle (B) have also been drawn in.

2015-12-01 · In summary, like other radiographic measurements, Böhler's angle and the crucial angle of Gissane possess limitations in reliability. Using trained observers for measurement, we show that even in optimal settings, disagreement in X-ray interpretation is common.

The normal range is 20 to 40 degrees. Angles < 20 degrees is suggestive of a calcaneus fracture and/or disruption of the posterior facet. The critical angle of Gissane (G) and the Boehler angle (B) have also been drawn in. The Boehler angle is normally 20°–40°. Historically, physicians would measure Bohler’s angle and the critical angle of Gissane in cases where a calcaneal fracture was not clearly evident on a plain X-ray.
